paper foldables
I just discovered these paper foldables and totally loved it. In fact they even get better when used for promotional purpose (see the handsome family one).

The evolution of big companies logos is always interesting, and I found car companies logo designs to be among the most interesting to inspect. One of my favorite aspect of these is to see how logos are handled when two or more brands are merging (see Audi, Mercedes-Benz or Mitsubishi).

Bringing interactivity to printed design is quite a challenge, so I was very impressed by this simple idea to make a zoomable paper map. This cool map of London can be bought here.

Unfortunatly I never had the opportunity to do client work on an infography, but it seems to be one of the most challenging task for a graphic designer. The perfect infography must synthetize complex information in a simple visual representation, which is not easy. The following examples take information architecture to another level by making it beautiful.

Typography rich sites

With the proliferation of tools such as Cufon, sFIR and Typekit designers can now much more easily put a bit of typography into their websites. But it’s not just these JavaScript tools that are out there.
HTML5 uploads fonts to the server to be downloaded to the client on request if required. This means the designer can rely on the site being displayed as he or she intended. So now we are seeing an art form that was once the domain of the print media coming across to web. Typography design is closely linked to structured grid design, which has also come across the print media.

If you are a seasoned designer, for sure you are quite familiar of the term fractal. Otherwise, to give you an idea of the term, fractal is generally defined as a rough or fragmented geometric shape that can be split into parts, each of which is (at least approximately) a reduced-size copy of the whole,” a property called self-similarity. On some designers, Fractals are also used as photoshop brushes for designs and images.
This post is generally an Ultimate Compilation of Photoshop Fractal Brushes for additional items on your list of resources. Come and download the brushes that you like and use them for your designs!

I have never watched a single part of "Saw" or "The Evil Dead" or "The Exorcist" or "Halloween" .. you get the gist. When it comes to horror movies, I scare easily. On the other hand I adore "The Blair Witch Project" and most good Asian Horror movies like "Ringu", "Ju-On", "Shutter", "The Tale Of Two Sisters", "Into The Mirror" and "Dark Water". I like the thrill factor that these movies work so well because I don’t have the stomach for gore. Even then most scenes from these movies have been watched through my fingers, focusing on the top right corner of the screen to avoid seeing anything extremely twisted and ghastly so as to give me nightmares.
So you can very well understand why I won’t sleep tonight. I have 53 incredibly dark, insanely creepy and macabre photo manips for your viewing pleasure. If you are anything like me, they’ll scare the pants off you. If you are not, well I salute you my brave friend, but even then, they leave an unsettling feeling in the pit of your stomach for the idea they represent. From a design point of view, they are absolutely genius, the touch of surreal horror perfectly done. You do have to applaud the imagination and effort that went into these awesome photo manipulations.

For the past few weeks I have been experimenting with my zoom lens and manual focus at different times of the day. As we head into spring here in Australia, the sky is quite a surprise mix of colors at different times. The different angles of the sun hitting objects of nature, changes their colors too. What would otherwise be a boring, mundane bark, suddenly stands out starkly against some lush green foliage, every nook and crevice enhanced due to the light hitting it perfectly. I have some amazing textures for you to download today. There are 10 beautiful, raw, decay, urban-style grungy wood bark textures with some unusual colors of greens, blues and yellows popping up most unexpectedly. As usual these are FREE for personal and commercial use, please read myTerms Of Use in the zip file. Each file is 3000×2000px and the zip pack is over 33MB. Resale of textures is NOT ALLOWED! If you use them, leave me a comment, I’d love to see creative uses of these beautiful textures.
Here are the 10 files in more details. Download zip file after the images.

10 Free Retro Fonts That Rule Part I
Fonts are one of the most powerful weapons in a designer’s arsenal. They can change the way one perceives a design. Fonts can make or break a design instantly. Proper usage of fonts or typography sets the scene for your design and conveys a visual message before your client/visitors even start reading. The retro look has been around for a while and shows no signs of slowing down. In the first of a 5-part series I have rounded up 10 amazing, absolutely free retro fonts that will put the "quirky" back in your designs hinting at a postmodern past that was rich with big circles, psychedelic swirls, vinyl sofas, cute volkswagons, candy striped milkshake bars, big happy flowers, space invaders and whimsy jukeboxes. And that is not all. Each image also comes with some design tags that the font conjured up for me. These tags are a great inspiration source, they tell you what the fonts could work best with. The Art Of Creating A Fictional Brand
According to Wikipedia "A fictional brand is a non-existing brand used in artistic or entertainment productions — paintings, books, comics, movies, TV serials, etc. The fictional brand may be designed to imitate a real corporate brand, satirize a real corporate brand, or differentiate itself from real corporate brands." And you may have seen instances of such a fictional brand in various media. But we are not talking about such a brand today. Today, we are going to take a look at how to create what logo designers fondly or grudgingly [in most cases] call "fake brands" or "fake logos"
